Meet Our Founder: Jonesy

William Timothy “Jonesy” Jones was a visionary whose life reflected purpose, perseverance, and community. Born in Trinidad and later rooted in New York, he devoted himself to building bridges between generations, cultures, and opportunities. From his work as a Trade Unionist to his career as an accountant at Manufacturers Hanover Trust, Jonesy’s true calling was shaping lives. In 1983, his love for youth and Caribbean culture inspired the creation of the Caribbean American Sports and Cultural Youth Movement (CASYM), which grew from a neighborhood gathering into a world-class cultural institution. Through CASYM, Jonesy nurtured not only talented musicians but also confident, educated, and empowered young people whose success remains the living heartbeat of his legacy.

Student Testimonial
Joyniya & Daphnee Demertis

As a high school junior, I've been part of a lot of extracurricular programs, but none have had the same impact on me as this dance and steel pan program. My sister and I have been involved for a while now, and it’s been an incredible journey of growth, creativity, and connection.

The instructors are not only skilled artists but also amazing mentors who truly care about each student. They create a supportive environment where we’re encouraged to express ourselves, challenge our limits, and work as a team. Whether it's mastering a complex choreography or learning the rhythms of the steel pan, every session is engaging and inspiring.
